For The Day: Rich Homie Quan “Gamble”

It’s good to see RHQ back in the game with this new visual for “Gamble”. He’s made his rounds on the media circuit (Everyday Struggle and DJ Vlad for example) and it seems he’s preparing for a comeback of sorts and I’m all for it.

WORD! Trinidad James “Di$respectful”

I don’t care what anybody says about this cat but Trinidad James was ahead of his times ESPECIALLY with what’s popular now in Hip-Hop. Trinidad wasn’t a mumble rapper but it’s funny that he was criticized for some of the same things that people love about the new kids on the block today. “Di$respectful” is his latest single and I am digging it. Shout out to Affion Crockett for the hilarity.

For The Day: Ludacris “Saturday (Oooh! Ooooh!)”

When Ludacris dropped Word of Mouf in 2001, I was in A&R in my own mind. “Roll Out” was the lead single and the video was in heavy rotation on BET. But once the album dropped and I had time to listen to it, I KNEW what the next single would be. Whenever I’d listen to an album, I had an ear for what songs would be promoted to sell the project. As soon as I heard “Saturday (Oooh! Ooooh!)”, I knew Luda had a heater. How could you ever go wrong with a joint produced by Organized Noize?

Classic Tapes: Hollyweerd “Electricity Showroom” (2009)

2009 was a great year for music. There was an influx of new artists that started to create their own lanes of that group there was Hollyweerd. They actually released their first tape, Edible Phat in August 2008, but this is the tape truly did it for me. They had their own unique style of rapping and they always chose dope beats to rhyme over. The Miles Davis interludes are still funny to listen to years later. Atlanta has a ton of dope acts but Hollyweerd was my favorite of that new class.

“Don’t let the days of your life pass by…”

“Ni**a, you need to git up, git out and git something
Don’t let the days of your life pass by
You need to git up, git out and git something
Don’t spend all your time trying to get high
You need git up, git out and git something
How will you make it if you never even try
You need to git up, git out and git something
Cause you and I got to do for you and I”

Words to live by… These days, you have to truly motivate yourself to reach the top tier. Nothing is given, ( well nothing of merit) everything is earned. Some many of us look up to celebrities and dream of being what they are like it’s supposed to happen overnight as if work isn’t the key or fervent belief in yourself isn’t necessary. Time waits for no man and the world will keep spinning whether you like it or not. So while you can breathe on this large green planet called Earth, be proactive and get it while the getting is good. Outkast…Thank you for a hustler’s anthem.
