Apple Had it Right…

In 1984, Apple released one of the greatest commercials ever during Super Bowl XVIII. It was an advertisement for the very first Macintosh computer that used Big Brother from George Orwell’s classic novel as the face of their competition. They chose the antagonist from 1984 to represent the elite that seemed to control technology and their consumers while the olympian, who symbolized Apple’s new creation, disrupted the brainwashing by breaking the big screen bringing forth the idea of a new hope. Apple’s Macintosh came to save the day but years later, in 2017, the idea of 1984 is more poignant than ever and we can give a bit of credit to our “personal” technology. Continue reading

Social Media… A Necessary Evil…

I use my phone for everything. I ordered Grace Jones’ latest memoirs with the Amazon App. I’ll FaceTime a few people here and there though it hinders me from doing other things with only one hand free. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, etc., can all be accessed on my iPhone. And when that Apple product is out of reach, I have an iPad and my laptop to fill the space of communication. I rarely make phone calls. I haven’t run over my minutes since High School. I interact more with family, friends, and associates online than in person and that’s kind of disconcerting. Single Life: They Wanna Be Seen On The Scene….

Whenever I move around the town more often than not, I run into good friends and associates especially in the Rittenhouse Square area of town. After spending most of my afternoon sweating and busting my ass while moving into my new apartment, I had to make my way downtown to handle a bit of business (get a SEPTA transpass for the week and hit OMOI ZAKKA for candles). Fortunately for me, while on this trip, I ran into the homie Quality Tom, who was just about to go on break from his gig in the city. Before I get into the meat and potatoes of this post, Tom is officially the plug since he put me on to a pair of Nike Roshe Runs from Buffalo Exchange that only cost me about $30. Me and the Nike Swoosh are going hand and hand in this summer. Continue reading
