For The Day: A$AP Ferg “East Coast Remix”

Until A$AP Ferg drops his upcoming album Still Striving on August 18th, there are a few joints that you can get with the pre-order. The “East Coast Remix” features Busta Rhymes, A$AP Rocky, Dave East, French Montana, Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg. I’m in the process of concocting an ill work out mix and THIS HAS TO BE ON IT.

For The Day: Tha Eastsidaz “G’d Up”

Another one of those West Coast G-Funk classics. Word has it that Kobe met his wife on the set of this video. Shout out to that fact.

DJ Quik’s “Visualism”

The wonderful things that you can find on YouTube is mind boggling. I didn’t even know that this existed. I searched for “Quik’s Groove” for my previous post and this appeared in the suggestion column. Quik’s “Visualism” DVD gives a look into his creative process, his tour life, collaborations with artists like Suga Free, Nate Dogg, Hi-C, and Mausberg, who died shortly after the release of Quik’s Balance & Option’s album in 2000. Rap Tour life seemed like so much fun 17 years ago. There weren’t a thousand cellphones, social media wasn’t at all what it is today. I found myself reflecting on the good ol’ days of a time that’s long gone. Continue reading

Word to Nas….

“I got no game it’s just some b****** understand my story”Nas

I always refer to that line. I treat it like something that could only be found in a biblical scripture. It’s not just a slick lyric in a rap song on one of my favorite rap albums, it’s applies to  life. It’s 2017 and as a country we are bracing ourselves for four years of uncertainty. While many are preparing for the absolute worst on behalf of the big bad terrible haired  Trump, I’m living as if it’s business as usual. The same problems that I faced in this country while President Obama was in office (he’s still my president and you can’t tell me different!) will still be prevalent if not worse once the Trump/Pence regime belligerently stumbles into the oval office. Like West Coast rhymer G. Perico titled his latest project, “Shit don’t stop!” and it won’t. Continue reading

For The Day: N.O.R.E. “Live My Life”

This is probably my favorite song from N.O.R.E’s God’s Favorite album. At the time of this album’s release, I was heavy into West Coast rap and production. Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records was on fire with Eminem and 50 Cent, Snoop and Xzibit had dropped great albums in that time period as well. Snoop’s Paid Tha Cost To Be The Boss and X’s Man Vs Machine had serious heat and I played each of those albums without question but I digress. N.O.R.E’s “Live My Life” caught my ears as soon as I heard that beat. I had sworn that it was produced by someone from the West but to my surprise it was IRV GOTTI aka DJ IRV. If I ever get a low rider, this will definitely be played at high volume.

Dope Interview… Snoop Dogg’s GGN: Jamie Foxx

This is one of dopest interviews of 2015 thus far… Jamie Foxx has had a few dope interviews as of late, the other great one being with Hot97’s Ebro In The Morning, where he discussed a bit of music and his parties but focused on his relationship with Mike Tyson as well as the upcoming Tyson biopic that he’s starring in. The cool thing about Snoop’s interviews is that he always brings the best out of his guests, nothing forced as the vibe is super organic. In this interview, Jamie discusses a bit of his origins on the scene as comic, his first interactions with Snoop D O Double G, having Wesley Snipes at this party (and a hilarious impression), as well as Django and his current album. Check after the jump for his interview with Ebro and a clip of him and his Foxxhole radio crew reciting lines from New Jack City. Continue reading

For The Weekend: Snoop Dogg “California Roll”

I’m more than pleased that Snoop dropped a visual for one of my favorite jams from his recently released BUSH album. The exceptionally gorgeous Nia Long appears in this cool visual that plays with futuristic Egyptian themed Los Angeles. I’m still floored at how good Stevie Wonder sounds after all these years… This is one of the best collaborations in the history of Hip-Hop…

Album of My Week: Snoop Dogg “BUSH”

I get so busy and caught up in life these days that I really REALLY don’t have the time to sit down and listen to new music. I’ve been buying 12 inches and 45s for my collection but new music tends to elude me which is truly a first. Yesterday, I downloaded Snoop’s BUSH album from iTunes (Support good music) and I wasn’t too sure about it if we are going to be completely honest. Snoop is one of the most consistent veteran Hip-Hop artists of our generation and Pharrell of the Neptunes, the sole producer of the project, had a crazy year in 2013 with back to back radio hits (I liked “Get Lucky” with Daft Punk and Nile Rodgers but Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” ANNOYED the hell out of me) so of course many would expect a dope project from the two given their past collaborative history. But I had my reasons for being a bit doubtful. Continue reading
