Throwback Thursday: The Streets “Has It Come To This?”

I’ve been on a strong UK Rap/Grime kick over the past month or so. I love watching the Don’t Flop rap battles and I follow some of the battlers on twitter. One of the emcees, Danny Jaqq, wrote about a grime beef that brewed between UK artists Chip (formerly Chipmunk) and Bugsy. I spent time listening to ALL of Chip’s response records and really became a huge fan of him as well as Stormzy, Skepta, Wiley, Kano, Krept & Konan just to name a few. Recently, Don’t Flop put up a blog post that featuring a visual history of UK Grime and Hip-Hop ranging from 2000 to 2015 and the discoveries were massive. One of the artists, The Streets, who I had heard of but never listened to, was on the list and it featured his single “Has It Come To This?” from his debut album Original Pirate Material. Unique voices in Hip-Hop offer some of the most memorable contributions to the craft and “Has It Come To This?” is on my list of tracks to bump whenever and wherever.

New Year, Old Ambition…

Pick me up… Put Me Down…

I started 2016 off positively. A few days before the new year, I made sure that I had all my ducks in a row by renewing my license. visiting the doctor for a check-up, and most importantly, I took an HIV/AIDS test and like I expected, the results were NEGATIVE. Like Chris Rock said “Took an AIDS test, passed it, got a 65”.I suggest that you all GET TESTED if you haven’t already especially if you dealt with wild people (there was a girl that I now refer to as my Summertime Shootout and for good reason.) I wanted to make sure that I was in good shape on the health side of things because HEALTH is WEALTH. The funniest thing about my HIV/AIDS test had to be receiving a brown bag filled with every kind of condom known to man. I wondered if he knew more about my 2016 than I did. Continue reading

Vibes N’ Stuff: King Britt “The Transition of Ann G”

Last week, my good friend King Britt released the first track from his upcoming project that he produced for Roland Aira titled Supreme Deity. The track is dedicated to an aunt of his that recently passed. The project sounds like it’s going to be HEAVY.

Morning Visuals: KENZO SS14 “Dawn in Luxor”

I’ve always been a huge fan of filmmaker (He’s proven to be much more than that!) Kahlil Joseph. I had the privilege to meet him a few years ago at BlackStar Film Fest and it was dope to hear about how we went about creating projects and conceiving the ideas behind them. While reading an interview with I-D Magazine, I came across a link for his collaboration with KENZO for their SS14 line of clothing which featured Shabazz Palaces and model Grace Mahary. As I’ve gotten back into writing over the past few weeks, this definitely worth the watch.
