Throwback Thursday: Shyne “Bad Boyz”

Shyne was supposed to be “it”. “Bad Boyz” was such a heater and he was prepped to be the savior of Bad Boy Records. Biggie was senselessly killed in LA, Ma$e allegedly found God, and The L.O.X. were OVER Diddy and their contracts. Bad Boy had a weakened roster but Diddy, forever the hustler, had Shyne as the ace in the hole. Unfortunately for Jamal “Shyne” Barrow, being in the wrong place at the wrong time not only cost him his career, it also snatched a decade of his life for a prison sentence. Shyne’s first album which he really could promote due to his legal situation was pretty good and the follow-up, Godfather Buried Alive released via Def Jam in 2004, has one of my favorite tracks of all time, “Diamonds and Mac-10s”. Crazy how things happen but no need to dwell on the past. Before I dip, I’m still attempting to to learn the patois sung by Barrington Levy.
