Throwback Thursday: Inner City “Big Fun”

January’s almost over… closer to Spring and I won’t have to worry about freezing my ass off for much longer… but dig… Inner City’s Big Fun was a killer in 1988… It hit the top of the charts in the U.S. and made moves in the UK as well. For a techno group from Detroit, that’s pretty ill… I wonder what Inner City is doing these days…

Goldie “When Saturn Returnz” (Documentary 1998)

Very interesting look into the life of Drum and Bass phenom Goldie… Many things that I did NOT know about him and his history but it further proves that if you stick to your craft anything can happen.

Instax Pastlife: Mad Decent Block Party 2011

I’m not one for the cold weather … AT ALL especially when it keeps me from enjoying the outside world. I’m scheming on the Summer with a vengeance. By that time, I’ll have a better step in the right direction but enough of that, while we are all facing the frost, I’d like to share a moment when it muggy and sunny out but the vibe was super live. The 2011 Mad Decent Block Party had water guns, wild music, fly women, and most of all great weather. The last MDBP that I hit in 2012 was OK but the best one that I can remember had to be when the actual party on a block back in 2010. Almost 5 years ago… sheesh… Continue reading

Classic… 1989 New Music Seminar Battle: DJ Aladdin VS DJ Miz

DJ Miz is a Philly Legend… His track “We Don’t Play” with Fresco still jams in my city. The New Music Seminars were legendary for the exposure that it gave artists and it focused networking pre internet so you know that the hustle meant hitting the pavement for real.

Dopeness!!! Cee Lo Green “TV ON THE RADIO” Album

This was a pretty slick idea… Cee-Lo dropped this unexpected yet much appreciated concept album that features Cee-Lo singing over classic TV theme songs such as Family Ties and The Peanuts Theme (Linus and Lucy).

Vinyl Athletics: Kanye West “Power” Picture Disc 12″

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

Released: September 14, 2010 (Vinyl)

As a collector, I have records that sit in my collection that I’ll never play but are there for purely artistic reasons. Kanye’s “Power” had the ill visual and when it came out, we knew that his upcoming album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy would be quite the project. The American contemporary visual artist behind the albums cover art and the art on this picture disc is George Condo. The particular cover for Power has Shakespearian influences and George has stated that “He’s alive in the painting, you know what I mean? In a strange way it’s like, he opened his eyes.” Continue reading

Wordplay: Beach vs XCEL

I hate reading Youtube comments… This battle was a clear 3-0. Beach wasn’t trash at all but I felt that Xcel – who’s quickly becoming one of my favorite battle rappers to watch – really put in a serious amount of work. Good battle with great energy minus Beach’s folly in the 3rd round of course.
